Church Offerings and Tithing
Tithe: In Malachi 3:7-12, God mandates Christians to pay one tenth of their income that thee may be enough in His house. He also gave a promise of blessing to those who obey this commandment—this is why we do this every Sunday (see Gen. 47:22 and 26; gen. 28:22; Num. 18:24; Lev. 27:32; Heb. 7:1-8). God demands that you pay your tithe to the church you attend, not any other.
General Thanks: Is mean to thank God for all the blessings of the week, for the protection and mercy on our lives. See Ps. 50:14; Ps. 30:4; 97:12; 106:1; 136:1-3; 107:1; Col. 3:19; Heb. 13:15; Mk. 12:41-44.
Special Thanks: Special miracles deserve thanksgiving—according to the Scriptures. Act 19:11 & Luke 17:17. This is to show our profound gratitude to the Almighty God for His steadfast love and blessing such as these: purchase of a new home, promotion at work, purchase of a vehicle, god’s safety from accident, deliverance from serious illness, God’s traveling mercies, etc. This act inspires others to thank God.
Vow: According to the scriptures, it is a solemn promise between an individual and God for accomplishing a particular thing in one’s life. Vow is voluntary offering that is promised to God at the time of a special, serious request. This act inspires others to trust God with something big (See Gen. 28:20; 31:13; Ps. 116:18; 76:11; Lev. 22:21; Num. 30:2; Matt. 8:4 & Mk. 1:44).
If you make a vow to do something for God when God delivers you, it is a must to quickly pay your vow. Do not be rash to make vows, but let your vow be meaningful and pay promptly. If you can walk with God, you’ll see the difference in your life.
Needy Offering: We collect needy offering once a month in order to help the poor within our church, outside the church, or even as far as other nations. If we take care of the needy, the Lord will take care of us. Looking out for he poor is pure religion. James 1:27; Ezek. 34; Ps. 34:6; Luke 6:20.
God wants you to also give your time and talents. All you have is given to you by the Lord and you will receive with the same measure with which you give.
